With the start of spring comes the first fertilization. This also applies to the wheat trial of the “ClimatePartner Agriculture” project run as a partnership between BASF and RWZ. Here, we used four variants each of a stabilized nitrogen fertilizer based on single-inhibitor technology and one based on dual-inhibitor technology. ‘Stabilized’ means that both fertilizers are kept from leaching by a nitrification inhibitor. The dual-inhibitor stabilized fertilizer additionally prevents outgassing. This not only minimizes N losses, but also reduces tractor passes as the first and second N applications are now combined. Overall, this reduces CO2-equivalent emissions. How much exactly? We are measuring that as part of the project and will know more soon.
